about

Back in the glorious days of "SOTW" - Song Of The Week, the music circle created by my friend Russ (aka "Russell And The Wolf Choir") which included Joe Holtoway (of "The Sea Kings") And Stacey Hirons (of "The Congress Roses") - when it was Joe's turn to pick a theme for the week he asked us to read Allen Ginsberg's poem "Sunflower Sutra" and choose a line to feature in our own lyrics. I picked: "when did you forget you were a flower?"
And that's how this song was born, on a hot Summer's day back in 2007.

lyrics

Mystic Summers of long ago,
Sweated to the marrow bone.
Future days in the past of stone,
When did you forget you were a Flower?

Wearing your corolla
As if it were a golden crown.
Whispering something like:
“Santa Claus won’t be back to town, this year.”

Present has yet no power
Upon thy beauty.
On the platform I’m still alone,
my pain is late, my Fate is on the next train.

Cold cold Winters of long ago,
Dancing with snow.
Frozen moments like books of dreams,
When did you forget you lived on sunbeams?
When did you forget you were a flower?
